Kia Sonet vs Hyundai Venue service cost: the first five services compared
Updated 17 October 2026 · CarsPlusBikes
The Kia Sonet and the Hyundai Venue are close cousins. They share a lot of engineering and they are sold at similar prices, so many buyers end up choosing between them on looks and features. Running costs are a better tie-breaker than most people expect: over the first five scheduled services, the gap between the two is several thousand rupees for every engine. The newer Kia Syros, which uses the same 1.0 turbo-petrol and 1.5 diesel engines, sits close to the Sonet.
All figures are before GST (add 18% for the amount you pay) and cover periodic maintenance only: the parts on the scheduled bill plus the labour charge. Tyres, brake pads, wiper blades, washing and repairs are extra.
Both are serviced every 10,000 km, but the free services differ
- Hyundai Venue: a service every 10,000 km or 1 year. The 10,000 km and 20,000 km services carry no labour charge, so you pay only for parts in the first two years.
- Kia Sonet and Syros: a service every 10,000 km or 12 months. Only the first service (12 months / 10,000 km) is labour-free; labour is charged from the second service onwards.
That makes the Venue look cheaper in year two. Over five services the Kias still come out ahead, because both their parts and their labour cost less at every paid visit.
Petrol: Venue 1.2 vs Sonet 1.2
The first comparison is the entry engines, in Pune. Pune is a Hyundai G1 city and a Kia class A1 city, the second-highest labour group for both brands.
| Service | Venue 1.2 Petrol (₹) | Sonet 1.2 Petrol (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 km / 1 yr | 2,724 | 1,507 |
| 20,000 km / 2 yr | 2,724 | 4,253 |
| 30,000 km / 3 yr | 7,000 | 4,129 |
| 40,000 km / 4 yr | 6,095 | 5,343 |
| 50,000 km / 5 yr | 7,815 | 3,767 |
| First five services | 26,358 | 18,999 |
Before GST. Pune (Hyundai G1, Kia A1). Sonet figures are the same for the manual and iMT gearboxes.
Cost of each service in Pune, petrol (₹, before GST)
Over 50,000 km the Sonet 1.2 costs ₹7,359 less to service than the Venue 1.2 in Pune. About ₹6,500 of the gap is parts: the Venue's engine oil and oil filter bill is higher, it has an AC filter on every bill, and its 50,000 km service adds coolant. Labour is closer: ₹10,113 for the Venue's three paid visits against ₹9,315 for the Sonet's four.
Turbo petrol: Venue 1.0 vs Sonet 1.0 vs Syros 1.0
| Service | Venue 1.0 Turbo (₹) | Sonet 1.0 Turbo (₹) | Syros 1.0 Turbo (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10,000 km / 1 yr | 2,868 | 1,649 | 1,571 |
| 20,000 km / 2 yr | 3,177 | 4,395 | 4,261 |
| 30,000 km / 3 yr | 6,835 | 4,271 | 4,565 |
| 40,000 km / 4 yr | 6,548 | 5,649 | 5,666 |
| 50,000 km / 5 yr | 8,099 | 3,909 | 4,184 |
| First five services | 27,527 | 19,873 | 20,247 |
Before GST. Pune. Sonet figures are the same for the 7DCT and iMT gearboxes.
The turbo engines follow the same pattern. The Sonet turbo saves ₹7,654 over the Venue turbo across five services, and the Syros turbo is only ₹374 dearer than the Sonet. Labour is identical; the small difference is parts, for example the Syros replaces its climate control air filter at four of the five services, the Sonet at two.
Diesel: Venue 1.5 vs Sonet 1.5 vs Syros 1.5
| Service | Venue 1.5 Diesel (₹) | Sonet 1.5 Diesel (₹) | Syros 1.5 Diesel (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10,000 km / 1 yr | 3,957 | 2,495 | 2,848 |
| 20,000 km / 2 yr | 5,207 | 5,947 | 5,948 |
| 30,000 km / 3 yr | 7,924 | 5,117 | 5,489 |
| 40,000 km / 4 yr | 8,578 | 6,592 | 6,593 |
| 50,000 km / 5 yr | 9,539 | 5,517 | 5,871 |
| First five services | 35,205 | 25,668 | 26,749 |
Before GST. Pune. Sonet figures are the same for the manual and automatic gearboxes.
Diesels cost more to maintain on every brand, mainly because of fuel filters and a costlier engine oil and filter bill. The difference between the brands is also widest here: the Sonet diesel saves ₹9,537 over the Venue diesel in five services. The Venue diesel replaces its fuel filter at 20,000 km and 40,000 km; the Sonet diesel at 20,000 km, 40,000 km and 50,000 km, but its parts are cheaper overall.

What each service contains
The bills explain where the money goes. For the petrol models:
- Venue 1.2: engine oil, oil filter and AC filter at every service. Air filter and brake fluid are added at 30,000 km, and coolant at 50,000 km.
- Sonet 1.2: engine oil and oil filter at every service. The 20,000 km and 40,000 km services add the climate control (AC) filter, the air cleaner filter and the iMT clutch actuator fluid, and 40,000 km also adds the fuel filter. Brake/clutch fluid comes at 30,000 km.
- Syros 1.0 turbo: engine oil and filter every time, the climate control filter at 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 and 50,000 km, the air cleaner at 20,000 and 40,000 km, brake fluid at 30,000 km and the fuel filter at 40,000 km.
So the Kias have a heavier 40,000 km service and light 10,000 km and 50,000 km services, while the Venue's bill climbs steadily from the third year as labour starts and coolant is added.
How much does the city change it?
Parts prices are the same across India; labour changes with the city group. In Jaipur (Hyundai G2, Kia A) the five-service totals drop to ₹25,887 for the Venue 1.2 and ₹18,214 for the Sonet 1.2, and to ₹34,734 and ₹24,883 for the diesels. The gap between the brands hardly changes, because it comes mostly from parts.
One thing to know if you live in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai or Hyderabad: these are Kia's top labour group (A1G), and for the Sonet and Syros the 20,000 km service price is not published for that group. The calculator shows it as n/a rather than guessing; your dealer will quote it.
The bottom line
- Over the first 50,000 km, a Kia Sonet costs roughly ₹7,400 to ₹9,500 less to service than the equivalent Hyundai Venue, depending on the engine.
- The Syros is within about ₹400 to ₹1,100 of the Sonet with the same engine.
- The Venue's two free-labour services make its second year cheap, but from year three its bills are higher.
