Kia capped price servicing in Australia explained: what each service costs and why
Updated 17 October 2026 · CarsPlusBikes
Every new Kia sold in Australia comes with capped price servicing: a fixed, published price for each scheduled service, set for the exact model, engine and model year. You know before you buy what the first seven years of servicing will cost at a Kia dealer, and the price cannot go up when you arrive for the service. This guide explains how the prices are built, why some services cost far more than others, and how the main models compare.
How the schedule works
Services are due every 12 months, or at a distance limit that depends on the engine, whichever comes first. The 1.6-litre petrol engines (K4, Seltos), the 1.6 hybrids of the Sportage, Sorento and Carnival, and the Stonic 1.0 mild hybrid have a 10,000 km limit. The 2.0-litre petrols (K4, Seltos), the Picanto 1.2, the Niro hybrid and all the diesels have 15,000 km. A Seltos 1.6 petrol is therefore due at 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 km and so on, while a Seltos 2.0 petrol is due at 15,000, 30,000, 45,000 km.
If you drive less than the distance limit each year, the 12-month limit decides and you pay one service per year. If you drive more, you will reach the distance limit first and pay for more than one service a year. Check your yearly kilometres against the limit before comparing totals.
A worked example: Seltos 1.6 petrol (2026)
| Service | Price (A$) | Items replaced |
|---|---|---|
| 12 months / 10,000 km | 331 | Engine oil, oil filter |
| 24 months / 20,000 km | 524 | Engine oil, oil filter, brake fluid, cabin pollen filter |
| 36 months / 30,000 km | 398 | Engine oil, oil filter, engine air filter |
| 48 months / 40,000 km | 677 | Engine oil, oil filter, brake fluid, cabin pollen filter, fuel tank air filter |
| 60 months / 50,000 km | 373 | Engine oil, oil filter |
| 72 months / 60,000 km | 658 | Engine oil, oil filter, brake fluid, cabin pollen filter, engine air filter |
| 84 months / 70,000 km | 665 | Engine oil, oil filter, spark plugs |
| First seven services | 3,626 |

The pattern is similar on most Kias. Every service changes the oil and filter and runs a long list of inspections (brakes, suspension, steering, cooling system, belts, lights). On the Seltos, the even-year services add brake fluid and the cabin filter, which is why the 24, 48 and 72-month services cost noticeably more; other models follow a similar rhythm. The engine air filter comes every third year, and the spark plugs at 84 months.
Why hybrids have one very expensive service
On the hybrid Sorento, Sportage and Carnival, the 48-month service is the big one. On the 2027 Sorento 1.6 hybrid (2WD) it costs A$1,095.56, against A$365.89 for the first service. As well as the usual oil, filters and brake fluid, the 48-month service replaces the fuel tank air filter and the HSG belt (the belt that drives the hybrid starter-generator). The Carnival hybrid's 48-month service is A$1,033.93, and the Sportage hybrid's A$876.53 (FWD) or A$912.44 (AWD).
The Sorento plug-in hybrid adds a second expensive visit: its 72-month service is A$1,244.29, and its first seven services total about A$5,294, the highest of the current range.

Diesels: fuel filters instead
The diesel Sportage, Sorento, Carnival and Tasman run 15,000 km intervals, so seven services cover 105,000 km instead of 70,000 km. Their big visit is the 48-month / 60,000 km service, which adds the fuel filter: A$872.43 on the 2027 Sportage 2.0 diesel, against A$379.65 for its first service. Over seven services that Sportage diesel totals about A$3,956.
Seven-year totals for current models
Looking only at the newest model year of each current model, the first seven services range from about A$3,072 (Seltos 2.0 petrol IVT, which runs 15,000 km intervals) to about A$5,294 (Sorento plug-in hybrid). Small cars such as the Picanto sit at the low end; seven-seat hybrids at the high end. Our Kia Australia page lists every variant and older model years back to 2016, with the full job list for each service.
Tips for owners
- Use the time limit to your advantage. If you drive well under the distance limit, you pay one service a year, and the price is fixed whatever kilometres you have done.
- Budget for the big years. Put aside more for the 24, 48 and 72-month services, and on a hybrid expect the 48-month service to cost two to three times the first.
- Check the model year. Prices differ between model years of the same car, so make sure you are looking at your car's year.
- Extras are not capped. Tyres, brake pads, wiper blades, batteries and any repairs found during the service are charged on top. Ask for a quote before agreeing to extra work.
