Kia models sold in the United States follow a fixed schedule: one visit every 8,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Pick your model to see, service by service and year by year, what is replaced, inspected, rotated and added, plus the stricter rules for severe driving, the owner checks between visits and the fluids each model uses.
Items marked in amber are fluid levels and tire pressures to check and top up if low.
Kia models sold in the United States follow a fixed maintenance schedule rather than a coded reminder. Under normal driving there is one scheduled visit every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first. Each visit includes an engine oil and filter change on gas and hybrid models, a tire rotation and a long list of inspections; some visits add replacements such as the cabin filter, engine air filter, brake fluid or spark plugs.
This page lays out every visit for the first 12 years for each current Kia model, so you can see in advance which services are small and which are big, and how hybrids and electric models differ.
The cabin air filter is replaced every second visit and the engine air filter every third. Brake fluid is replaced every 48,000 miles or 48 months, and spark plugs every 48,000 miles on turbocharged engines or 96,000 miles on most non-turbo engines. Engine coolant lasts until 120,000 miles or 120 months the first time. Visits where several of these line up take longer than a basic oil-and-rotation visit.
Short trips, lots of idling, dusty or salted roads, towing, mountain driving, stop-and-go traffic and commercial use all count as severe conditions. Under them the engine oil is changed every 5,000 miles or 6 months, and items such as the automatic transmission fluid and AWD oils get replacement intervals. Kia also recommends switching to the severe schedule after 10 years or 100,000 miles.
Hybrids add an inverter coolant and the hybrid starter-generator (HSG) belt to the schedule. Electric models such as the EV3, EV6, EV9 and Niro EV have no engine oil, spark plugs or air filter, so their visits are mostly tire rotations, inspections, cabin filters, brake fluid, reducer fluid checks and coolant.
Under normal driving, every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first. Under severe driving the engine oil should be changed every 5,000 miles or 6 months.
It depends on the engine. Turbocharged (T-GDi) engines are scheduled at 48,000 miles; most non-turbo engines at 96,000 miles. Pick your model and engine above to see the exact visit.
On most current models the automatic transmission fluid needs no scheduled service under normal driving, but it is replaced every 56,000 miles under severe driving.
Mainly tire rotations, inspections of brakes, suspension and steering, cabin filter changes, brake fluid every 48,000 miles or 48 months, reducer fluid checks and coolant replacement at 120,000 miles or 120 months the first time.
Coolant and washer fluid levels and tire pressures at fill-ups; lights, tire pressures and wheel nuts monthly; hoses, wipers and belts twice a year; and brake fluid level, battery terminals and lubrication once a year. The list for each model is on this page.
